Improved Low Fuel Light, '67-68 Convenience Panel
« on: November 21, 2014, 10:37:12 AM »
Hi guys, I ran across this product after reading the recent '67-68 Convenience Panel thread.  I have no stake in this whatsoever, I just saw it over on the VMF and thought it might be helpful to those trying to get the Low Fuel Light working on a '67-68.  I know it was a nightmare trying to get the original Low Fuel setup to work (and stay working), so maybe this will help someone out:

There's also a version available for '69-70 Mustangs & Cougars; that can be found at West Coast Classic Cougar.
Too much junk, too little time.

Nice alternative for functionality purposes!

I'll be repairing mine to work as original, but it is good knowing that the "backup plan" uses an original NON-LOW FUEL sender units!

Good, in working condition original 2-wire (three studded) senders are impossible to find! Not needing one to get the system up and running makes for a good interim, if nothing else.

The thermister is the part that fails. We have never found a working used one in the last 10 plus years.

If you are looking for a low fuel, fuel sending unit for your 1967-68 Mustang (or Cougar) originals can be found on any Cougar XR7. 1967 and 1968 low fuel senders are different and carry different casting numbers. The only difference is the diameter of the fuel line. 1967 used a 5/16 diameter fuel pickup to match the main fuel line, and the 1968 used the improved 3/8 diameter fuel line. Either year will work with the 16 gallon fuel tank and electrical plug.
