Inner or outer lower tube?

Believe the inner is semi-gloss black and the outer is dark charcoal metallic but pictures are so poorly lit in that area its difficult to double check in pictures

The lower shaft appear to be a darker natural bare steel with a natural section for attachment to the rag joint with the welding detail

Will check the screw but believe we will find the screw zinc plated - but will check

Thank you for your reply jeff,   i was refering to any part of the steering column components and brake line fastners that are seen in the engine compartment side

Thank you for your reply jeff,

Found some time to go through the examples - discovered that my mind was more focused on 69 details rather than 70 :( so here's some better help

Yes believe we are on the same page.

Looks like the outer tube was dark charcoal like the upper outer tube. The inner tube looks to have been  phosphate and oil or at least that look originally.  No weld detail on the lower inner steering shaft on the exterior- more of a press on. All bare steel other than bare steel and oil it appears.

Heads for the brake clamps appear to be phosphate and oil again.   But here are some pictures for you to look at

I saw a Carpenter repro of the rubber boot Saturday at a friends shop. It looked great.
