1970 Cowl Brace Bolt Finish
« on: November 15, 2014, 09:19:21 PM »
Am I correct that the cowl brace bolt finish changed from zinc dichromate to phosphate & oil (S2) sometime in the 1970 model year?  If so, when did this change take place?  I am specifically interested regarding my 11/22/69 Dearborn built Boss 302, but I assume this applies to all Mustangs.  Perhaps this date varies by plant?

With a quick look at my pictures I'm finding P& O on earlier cars. Will find time to go through them all and report back

One example to start with

Thanks Jeff.  That linked image is a very early car, so perhaps all the 70's got the P&O.  I sure see a lot of restored '70 cars with the zinc dichromate finished bolts  ::)

Correct - it was meant to respond to your initial comment about which were early which were later

Yep - why we all warn not to just copy blindly restored cars. Yes it easier to assume that someone else did their homework when really its just often the crowd following each other in a circle.  :o But even though I keep few pictures of restored cars I did find allot of the ones I have pictures of did use the P& O finish

So some more original car examples from 70 Dearborn

jeff the 70 b9s still used the gold plated export brace bolts  probablybecause they were still at kk plant leftover from 69 so they used them up on 70 b9s when they installed x-port braces at kk plant

My 70 Cougar Dearborn built Cougar (build date Sept 15 69) came with P&O. Dad bought the car new and were never removed.
