I ordered the hold plate from NPD and for some reason all three prongs do not fit in the center of the steel wheel.  I can only get 2 out of the 3 to fit.  I don't know if that is correct or not or what the proper hold plate is...

This is what I have on my San Jose built (Oct 65) 66 "K" car. All items came with the car, I refinished them.
I would think that Ford would not use a wing nut without some type of finish, cadmium or zinc plating. The wing nut is one of the first things you see when the trunk is opened and a natural finish would rust. That being said, there are three possibilities for the finish on factory installed wing nuts, cad/zinc, phosphate or none. We already know that NOS parts are "sometimes" different than original so when you get a "genuine" NOS anything, be leery (don't reject it, but be careful). We also know that after 50 (almost for a few) years a part will show its age. In a few instances it is called surface rust. You can get surface rust on a steel part from the moisture on your hand.
I think I'll err on the side of preservation and accept zinc plating.

Anyone have this same issue?

Was the C5ZZ-1424-A for a steel spare wheel?

Was the C5ZZ-1424-B for a styled steel spare wheel? (NOS service replacement picture attached)
The top wing nut is correct. The bottom is what I've received as a reproduction. Notice the way the wing comes off of the nut on both units. Their is a good e-bay picture in the trunk section on this forum. I have five just like the e-bay posting. l

The pics above help, I see an obvious difference now.  Will keep an eye out for this from now on.

Charles that's what I'm talking about. The way the wings come off.

So on an early 65 car, should there be prongs for the hold down for regular steel wheel?
