1993 original battery and cables
« on: November 03, 2014, 09:54:14 AM »
Just got my judging sheet from Savannah, my first show in concours with my 93 LX convertible. I lost points on non original battery and positive cable. Is there a place I can buy a battery and a positive cable?

those parts are not reproduced. you will have to check salvage yards & e-bay for the battery. the cables you may be able to find in NOS form. do you know exactly what you need?? the battery need not be functional. it will be judged on condition & cleanliness only.

Good luck Deb,
Finding  that  battery, The cable will be a little easyer to find I think.
The Columbus Ohio All-Ford  super swap is coming up Thanksgiving weekend, check that out for some parts.
What else did you get points taken on?

Hey Dave, glad to see you're on the forum!  We were just talking about you the other night, and about how you had to have the cleanest Fox convertible in Savannah!

Don't know about the cleanest, but we work hard to make it as clean as it can be!

Hi dbeck72130,

Here is what I would do.  As long as its a Ford Motorcraft Positive battery cable for a Mustang you will be good.

Here is a NOS positive battery cable for a 88 Mustang

http://www.quirkparts.com/oe-ford/e8zz14300a

For the battery - It does not have to be original except in Thoroughbred class.  It must be Motorcraft and correct group for your Mustang.

Hope this helps

Thanks, that's the cable I have on the car and I have the correct group and size Motorcraft battery. They still hit me for 2 points for non original battery and cable. Still got gold, just want to save all the points I can.

Dave, I didn't want to say anything until someone else chimed in, but I too thought that you could use a Motorcraft battery in Concours Driven.  I know you can in the vintage Concours Driven classes.

Did you show it in Unrestored class, if so, that would make sense.  Here is the rule for that.

Unrestored cars are usually low mileage with original factory parts and equipment as ordered. These cars will be judged on originality by Thoroughbred standards with reproduction or updated Ford Service Replacement parts not acceptable

Thanks to all, a lot of good info. Planning on 2 national shows 2015 Grovetown GA and Columbus OH look forward to seeing some of you there. Wanted to thank Steve Prewitt for his years of service to the MCA and his help along the way.

Sounds like they only "hit" you for the battery. It concours driven, even with a Motorcraft battery it is a mandatory 2 pt deduction for wrong group and size. What size and group battery do you have?

priceless

Bx-58-c is what I have and that is correct per my ford dealer.

I am not familiar with your particular model year, so I can not confirm that is correct. However, what does your owners manual list as the correct group and size? I do know that Tom (the owner of the '87 Saleen that was at the Savannah show) is looking for a BX58C for his car.

I know on my '86 SVO, Ford does not offer the original group and size, but do offer a service replacement. The service replacement is correct as far as a replacement, but not correct for MCA concours judging.

The easiest way to get to the bottom of this is to contact the judge that judged your car (their number should be on your judging sheet).  :)

Hope this helps.
