That generalization on emergency brake routing does not apply to late '65 Dearborn. Other assembly plants?

I figured it might have been phased out during the '65 model run.  I've never heard an approximation of when the later-style floor started being used.
Too much junk, too little time.

I don't know if they have fixed this yet with the repro 1-piece floor, or if it's even on anyone's radar, but on a '65 the emergency brake cables went through a hump in the floor and over the rear framerail.  In '66, this switched to the cables just routing under the framerails.  A '65 floor will have those provisions, whereas a '66 floor will be flat there.
This area is poorly documented in both the Mustang Chassis Assembly drawings (or lack of) and the Ford Car Parts book.

My May 11, 65 San Jose has the 65 configuration. Others?

I think this part of the original thread need to be split off. Jeff?

Thought the site and members would benefit from splitting a discussion that developed in another thread related to when Ford changed from the floor pan design that allowed the rear E brake cables to pass between the rear frame rail and floor and the change to no passage way.

Done - One concern on my part and possibly others, is that details like this help people faking, cloning or choosing to take advantage of people be better at it.

Just a thought that always comes up when these things get discussed

Concerning San Jose cars, the change seemed to occur in very late '65.  The first carryover '66 GT350s (actually '65 cars with mid June as the latest sheet metal dates) have the humps with a flat floor mixed in.  Just a very short time later, the flat floors only seem to show up on all of the cars.

So, at least in San Jose production, it would appear that the change over occurred in late '65.

I know that this has been discussed before, but on many of these late '65's (even with the hump), the rear parking brake cables are not routed over the frame rail.  They are attached to the floor pan with unique brackets.

Maybe mid May ?  My car has a owner's card dated May 29 and I don't know what a ' hump ' is .  The E brake cable has a bracket at the forward floor pan location and then to the rear ' unique brackets ' at the rear area below the GT exhaust hangers.  Then to the rear wheels below the frame rails.  No tunnels.  Where to locate a date stamp ?  Brian

Here is a picture that I found of an earlier convertible showing the "humps" in the pans under the rear seat.

Well, maybe I do have humps ?   The ' unique brackets ' don't look so unique ' Look like brake line clips and hex heads to attach.  Brian

I'm glad I stumbled across this thread.  I didn't realize the earlier thread had been split off--I thought someone had deleted my posts!

Brian,

That all looks correct.  I called the brake cable clips "unique", because you do not find them on the majority of '65 cars.

Nah we wouldn't do that :)   The system does not post a redirect for splitting a topic like it does when we move one
