I need help with a paint detail process for my 428 and can't find a section when I search the archive.
How was the engine painted ( i.e. what components were on the engine prior to paint ) ?
was the transmission ( C6) attached to the engine prior to paint? if so should there be much overspray on trans case?
No like the early pictures we posted of the 65-68 engines the automatic transmissions were not attached until they arrived at the assembly plant and being prepared to place in the car.
OK will try and post a list of what was attached to the engine block at the time the engine was painted. IF I forget something, others, please feel free to add in and will discuss until we get a solid list for members. Only will list items that make up surfaces that will be visible on the exterior of the engine once completed
69 - 428CJ
1- engine block with freeze plugs and drain plugs installed
2- cylinder heads
3- intake manifold
4- oil pan with plug installed
5- crankshaft with mask over the front snout
6- crankshaft snout spacer or hatchet (if a SCJ)
7- timing cover, timing pointer and attaching hardware
8- water piump
9- engine plate at the rear of the engine
10- flywheel
11- thermostate housing with vacuum tree (ported vacuum switch) installed
12- thermactor bypass/gulp valve mount
13- thermactor manifolds attached to each head as well as the attached check valves
14- dip stick tub attached
15- Bypass hose and clamps - between waterpump and intake manifold
16- all mounting hardware and gaskets used to attach and seal the above parts to other items in the list
17- intake manifold vacuum connections.
Installed -
front vacuum block,
vacuum tube between front and rear block as well as the PCV. Rubber hose out to the PCV as well as clamps and valve. Have seen paint out to the valve or fade somewhere on the rubber hose.
Rear vacuum block between tubing and intake as well as short hose and clamps
18- masks installed over heater hose nipples, water pump snout (where the pulley connects to the pump end), ported vacuum switch, oil filter bracket mounting surface, radiator hose connections and fuel pump mounting flange
19- lots of discussion about if the exhaust manifolds and mounting hardware were attached at the time the engine was painted
Ok there is a start lets we if we can make it better
