Trick to remove e-brake cable from backing plate?
« on: October 02, 2014, 09:41:21 PM »
Anyone have an easy tip for removing the e-brake cable from 66 backing plate? Need to compress the fingers on the yellow clip that locks in.

Tried sliding a 1/2" (1/2 inch drive) socket over but too thick and hits backing plate. Cable and spring won't fit through 3/8 drive.

Tried a hose clamp also.

I used the hose clamp approach with success (and some difficulty).  I see NPD sells a tool for this, but I have not used it..

The simplest tool I'xe ever used...a 9/16" 12 point boxed wrench (sometimes an offset boxed wrench helps for access). I cannot think of any car in creation it hasn't worked on. Just ratchet it up and down, pulling slightly on the cable.

Have used a screwdriver and worked it around - each tang one at a time, hose clamp (once), needle nose pliers  and more often an open end wrench
