Ran across this in a junkyard.  Interesting details on the hood

Looks like rotation number on the corner of the hood?  Never seen that.

Also has a yellow "R".

Then there are the bare spots where the hood was held during painting.

Bolts were the 'double quote' ( " " ) ones that I have observed common from SJ in 67.  Fenders and hood latch structure are non tooth type, hood hinges are tooth variety.

Thanks for sharing - what no date codes ??? ;)

Did you look around the rest of the body for any of the others? Real typical - sometimes you'll find a white on in one corner and a black one in the other btu not always

Also has a yellow "R".

Seen a number of different letters (but not a wide range of letters used apparently)  Not sure of the purpose - and on very few of the examples. Thanks again for sharing

Dang it - no date codes.  Here's my excuse...this was a totally unplanned event.  Drove by a yard while on vacation.  Had family sitting in a car with AC on while I went through it - so was already asking a lot.  But they are somewhat used to it by now ;D  All I had was my cell phone for a camera, and figured that with the VIN you could nail the car within a couple days anyway.

I looked in a couple places for the rotation number in the typical locations, but access was not that good down low so did not find anything.

To help narrowing the window of time, I have a SJ donor door here with the data tag still on it, says it is off an S-code coupe with M13 scheduled build code (December 13,1966) and the vin is 7R01S15163*.

This places it EDIT: your example somewhere in later December I think, maybe Jeff has more data that narrows it more.

None the less, this seems to run consistant with the 2nd design early hood with wiring clips (not hoops) and grommets to prevent chafing of the wires (not rolled edges).  It also has the braided wiring covers (not plastic) and the metal light sockets (not plastic).

I have learned so much here at Concours, I find out more every day!

1 happy mustanger!

Thanks John. It is another good example of the second version of the 67 hood. It would be good to know when the change over occurred to the third version. At least here in NE you do not see many sitting out in the open. My family likes it that way.LOL

My SJ GTA 15685* is Dec 20.  157328 is pretty darn close to that.

I agree with Marty in that it would be nice to know the transition to hood design #3.  Finding untouched stuff is only getting more difficult.

The first 50 "135 series" Cobra Jet cars had 67 hoods with the Ford letters. These were Dec 20 builds. Not sure this helps as many earlier 68 cars have true 68 hoods. For interest sake the 3rd version 67 hood was still around towards the end of the calendar year. I will have to look and see if any of the J and S code "117" Winternationals cars have this hood. My 68 J code survivor is a 117 car built right between 2 of the Winternationals cars and it has a true 68 hood. At this point we think Ford wanted the recognition and pulled them from existing inventory prior to paint.
Has anyone else seen a late 67 hood on a 68 car?

OK, now I have another question about the hoods...a 68 hood had NO F O R D on them? excepting as noted here?

This is exactly like my hood.  I have been searching for those clips that hold the wiring.  Does anybody know where I can find them?  Thanks, John

Originals are very difficult to remove with out breaking. Jim Chism reproduced them some time ago. I do not know if he still has them. 3D printer?
