Topic: 71 Mach 1 sound deadner

Restoring 71 Mach 1 built at Dearborn plant, need info on where seam sealer and sound deadner was applied on under side of body. Also firewall and inside front fender areas. Interior and trunk areas are original. would appreciate any info.

Not sure where you are in the process (what stage)  Things like the trunk details and the interior would come long before the undercarriage and the front wheelwells.  Since the Trunk and interior would be applied before paint (as well as the rear wheelwells)  and the front wheel well had sealers before and after exterior color and just about after every part was installed on the car.  While the undercarriage sealers and sound deadener for Mach's and Grande's was done late in the build (after body color and many parts were installed) also.

Have a couple of things going on - may take a few days to get these organized and posted unless someone beats me to it. Wanted to lay out the ground work and let you know that your request has been "heard"

Thanks Jeff:  Car is on rotisserie with under body,engine bay areas all primed with DP 90 LF. Only body repairs needed were both outer wheel housings and minor repairs at hood hinge areas. All interior sealers and sound deadner in trunk are original from factory. Areas I need info for is under body, enine bay and coil spring side of fender mount extensions

If you have the 71 or 72 Body shop manual it highlights seam sealers and underbody sound deadener.

Unfortunately it shows where they wanted it to be applied not where the workers really applied it. Have deducted for stuff a number of times at shows like this where the owner/builder applied the products like the assembly manuals show it. OF course the interior doesn't count since we don't see it

Thanks to all who replied:   Don't recall seeing the sound deadener applied like factory manual states. Mistake I made was not taking pictures before sand blasting. Anyone know of a product similar to what Ford used for sound deadener on a 71 Dearborn car. Saw a post where Bob Perkins had used a product brand, Lord Fusor 805

Have not found an acceptable product myself (though a search of the site will give you experiences and reviews of what others are using)

Lord Fusor for me works find for narrow applications. A wide pattern needed for a third of the floor of a Mustang has been a challenge and its going to expensive using that product since you don't get allot of out of each little tube and getting them to flow together in multiple applications might look out of place

As typical we often find that there is a range of how much was applied and where it was applied. Often the range falls between a little and allot  

So here are some original pictures (some highlighted for visiblity) one example where the pattern is much closer to the outside rocker panels while others as about 2/3 of the way.  One being applied across the floor pan while on the other no visible (allot more product appears to have been applied) pattern

Thanks Jeff for posting photos, recently had access to a 71 Mach 1 Dearborn car with a 11-70 build date. Sound deadener application looked similar to car you posted for examples. Used a hoist to inspect all areas for deadener application, was surprised to see deadener applied to area rear of wheel housings between frame and vertical extension to rear.  Now have 2 reference cars for typical application!
