There are at least 2 or 3 versions.  64.5 was typically Bendix, which was a different shell.  Then there were Motorola and Philco.

I count four, a 64, a 65 that's common for Motorola, Bendix and Philco radios, and two in 66, one for the standard AM radio and one for the AM/8 track combination.
Jim
Looking at the ones I got on the shelf, it looks like the 66 version is for a deeper chassis than a 65.

I have these brackets in two sizes/lengths. All the attaching bolts are the same.  The radio is the OE for my 65 car.  I think.  Pictures may help to identify the brackets?  Brian

Ok thanks for that, yet another difference...
For those that have 64 1/2 brackets and are willing to part with them, please PM me buying details.

The radio pictured above is stamped 5TMZ and a Motorola ?  The bracket for this radio is the shorter version pictured above and marked 65-66 ?  Caspian remarked the 64.5 radio was typically a Bendix with a different shell.  Also a different bracket not pictured ?  The longer brackets pictured above go to a Philco ?  Thanks,  Brian

The above about versions is incorrect. See new post below.

Upon further review (are you ready for some football?), the shorter brackets, 7 7/8 in overall, are for a 66 AM radio, the longer brackets are for a 65, 8 1/2 in overall. I don't have any info on the 64 bracket except p/n. See Brian's pictures.
64 - C4ZA-18888-A - L ?
65 - C5ZA-18888-A - L 7 7/8 in
66 AM - C6ZA-18888-A - L 8 1/2
66 AM/8 TRK - C6ZA-18888-B - L ?

This used to say - "I don't have any info on the 65 bracket except p/n."
Pete - Is that what you meant?

The measurements in the last part of your post contradict the first part of your post

Agree that the longer bracket is for the shorter housing on a 65 radio

Ok (more review stuff), I found another bracket in my vast pile of parts and it is a 1964 type. Same overall length as the 65 style but it uses a 14-10X5/8 hex sheet metal type screw (31498-S42) and has the appropriate hole for a sheet metal screw. The bracket is made of thinner metal, 0.043in thk vs 0.060in thk for the 65 (and 66) type. I guess it's time to take pictures.

These are the AM radio brackets for 1964 1/2 thru 66 Mustangs. Not shown is the 1966 AM 8-Track mounting bracket, C6ZA-18888-B.
The brackets are shown from the top down in all four pictures, 1964 1/2 (C4ZA-18888-A), 1965 (C5ZA-18888-A) and 1966 (C6ZA-18888-A). None have identification markings (that I could find).
Pic 1. Full length side view. Note the "short" 1 1/4 inch bend on the RH end on the top 66 type, and the longer 2 1/2 inch bend on the lower two. Also note the "rib" running up the long section on the lower 1964 1/2 type.
Pic 2. Full length top view. Same bend info as above, but note the extension of the rib on the RH end of the lower 1964 1/2 type, and the two ribs at the LH end that gets screwed to the dash, plus the bevels at the dash end.
Pic 3. Detail of the radio mounting end. The mounting hole is 0.320 in dia on all three.
Pic 4. Detail of the dash mounting end. The hole for the 1965 and 1966 brackets are deformed punched and then tapped 12-24 for screw 55592-S42. The 1964 1/2 dash end is stamped for a sheet metal screw 31498-S42, 14-10 thread.

Jim:  The last one in the 2nd pic, those are usually black zinc.

The plating looks really nice on them.

Back to the top with this one.  I grabbed a few at the junkyard the other day and noticed a difference between two of the 64.5 fasteners.  A sample of 2 is only larger than sample of 1, or I suppose a sample of someone's memory, so I put this out there with an asterisk.  There's probably 5 or 6 more 64.5's out there, but unless there is a pressing need I'll move on to something else.

These were not replated - just soaked overnight in Rust911
