« on: August 26, 2014, 12:14:46 AM »
I am trying to determine the correct finish for my 69 Eliminators front calipers.
Thanks for any comments

Before someone else asks - what wheels did you car originally come with?

Sorry for the technical problems with the first request :(

On some of the open spoke design wheels (69/70 Shelby) the front side of the caliper was blacked out so that flash rust would not be seen . It was painted with a few strokes of a brush like with the rear drum for the same reason. FYI earlier style front calipers 65-67 were plated for that reason.

Don't recall any special prep on the calipers for 69 - so bare cast steel with fresh looking machined surfaces. Possibly the black out as Bob described. Dichromate bleeders, galvanized shield (though they are not in the picture below :( , phosphate brake pad retainers, slide pins/bolts dark as are shield mounting bolts. Can't recall this moment if the brake line bolt should have a red dye finish  ::)

Hope this helps - please ignore the paint marks on the spindle. They likely don't apply to your application
