11-02-66 San Jose Floorpan Pictures
« on: August 20, 2014, 08:27:46 AM »
AS discussed in another thread, these are from my unrestored floor, after scrubbing most of the dirt, road grime etc. Some work is being dome in various pictures. I'll try and post links to another thread on Frame Rail Repairs I had made to show some of that damaged ares before stripping. Most visible damaged areas I am responsible for causing from when I a young driver in the late 70's. I am very happy the car survived a few episodes of stupidity and/or bad driving skills of a bulletproof teenager.

Very nice pics, thanks for sharing.  For reference can you provide the first 8 characters of the VIN (7R0*$xxx) that will help put these into perspective?

Picture 19 is cool - shows exterior color that shot through the backup light hole when valence was hanging on the body, something discussed here several times.

I think the consecutive numbers may be a bit more help. Already noted in Subject Title that it is "7R"
and the photos would demonstrate either as an "01" coupe or an "02" fastback and should be somewhat consistent with any Mustang produced in San Jose closely to the date provided already.

Consecutive numbering off body in photos is: 1274XX

True, there IS body color that shot through the backup light opening in the rear valance, but it is covered with REPAINT. Only SOME of the original can be seen from other angles not clearly seen in that picture. I removed all of the chrome and lamps when I did a color change on this car years ago.

What needs added to that comment is the fact is the car was originally Lime Gold (Ford 2041-A, Data tag code "I")

What you see clearly in photo 19 as well as other images is the color that looks much like Dark Moss Green, is the color change color. Look again at the wheel well images and the floor pans, you will see MUCH MORE of the original Lime Gold body color than any of the repaint coloring in those areas. (those areas would have been somewhat dirty, so re-paint didn't stick well) You might have missed very good details if you thought this car was originally Dark Moss Green.

More images that didn't make it into the FIRST set below.

In picture 7 (below) I had just finished straightening the inverted floorpan under the passengers seat. Much effort was given to not remove any original paint but I had to use a stud puller to help get certain areas back out. In that picture, if you look in the blackout paint near the rocker pinch weld, you might see the what I'll call a "smiley face" of how deep the damage was. (it is kinda rusty orange color)

ALSO, a link to some of the BEFORE cleaning (much) damages area needing fixed on the frame rails.

Thanks for sharing and added them to the thousands of other examples :)

Can you confirm (since pictures only give us a general idea of the real color) is this a pasty, pale or salmon color primer sealer?

Notice the rear trailer hitch signs :(

Looks like allot of the lighter oversprays and the body color in the rear wheelwells was lost during the cleaning process. Very typical and I've go no suggestions as to how better to clean these areas since anything that removes the grim and oils removes some paint no matter what - when added to scrubbing or rubbing :(

BTW can I get a real build date since I'm sure you have a Marti? Vins are nice but they only get us to the general time range not to a specific day ;)

Again thanks for the shots

On my monitor, the last photo closest matches the true color. Salmon is as close of a description.

Yeah, that was an idea I had to trailer all of my belongings back to Ohio all in one trip. I ended up scrapping the idea so really it never even got use. I was having a serious life crisis that year, not the clearest of thinking. :(

It actually isn't as bad as you might think. Keep in mind this car was born Ivey Gold, not the Dark Moss it looks to be in the photos. There are many areas of overspray landing as far as the middle of the car, more prominently on the raised surfaces of the floor pan. Most of it all stayed pretty good.

As posted in the TITLE of the thread, it is build date 11/02/1966 (schedule build was 11/01/1966, one day behind schedule)

That's OK, I just saw I wrote 11/02/67...oops! That makes it a 68 model year build. WRONG! :D

I've corrected the ones I can correct too ;)

Bump

Stay tuned: Finalizing some of the restoration work on this car this fall. Working on the seam sealing & sound deadener so I brought this thread back to life to ease in locating it on my phone for more pictures I will be uploading soon of the original markings, overspray patterns, black-out etc.
