Carb dates
« on: August 18, 2014, 11:31:50 AM »
I have a 6A2 correct Holley for my April 14 '67 built Jersey S code.  Is that date close enough for judging not to lose points?  Thanks.
I don't always downshift, but when I do it is near a Prius so they can hear me hurting the environment.

Strictly for judging dates are not looked at or considered for anything but unrestored or thoroughbred at MCA

Now just to get things original - our focus here :)

Your date of 6A2 would decode as Year, Month and Week so 1966 - November - 2nd week

Its believed that Holley may have built specific application in groups then moved to another since they were supplying allot of different car companies as well as their aftermarket business. Returning at a later date to make another group as needed. If this is so then we would expect that the spread between when the engine was built and when the carb was built could e a little greater than "normal" when compared to parts built on a regular basis by Ford plants.

I don't see a problem with this date and your cars production date. It might be better to compare the Nov 66 date to when your engine was assembled IMHO

Thinks like this will be covered in a new article covering how to read and decode part dates in the near future. We're working on it

Thanks Jeff, I have a correct carb for the engine that is dated 723 (1967, February, 3rd week) and thus closer, but it needs some work.  Didn't want to go to more projects now than necessary…... ::)

I was inquiring since this phrase on the Concours Trailered/Driven sheet was not clear to me:

I. Carburetor and Intake Manifold: Proper type for year and engine ....................................… 5

Good to know the dates are not checked that closely.

No problem - and the challenge when writing the rules since things can always been seen from many different angles ;)

Year in this example is in reference in the style  since a 66 will look different (for example) from a 70 or a replacement

Right, and I am also trying to overcome my many years of training in NCRS, where we had a blanket rule that all part dates had to be within 6 months prior to the car's build date or there would be deductions.

That's ok. We'll help you through this transition. We're here for you ...  :)
