Seat Belt Retractors
« on: August 18, 2014, 10:19:19 AM »
On my '67 GT 'vert, would the front seat belts (outboard side) have retractors inside a holder, or just retractors?  Thanks.
I don't always downshift, but when I do it is near a Prius so they can hear me hurting the environment.

I am under the understanding that CONVERTIBLES (both 67 or 68) did not use a seatbelt retractor on neither the front or rear seats.
Fastbacks and Coupes used a retractor on the outboard locations, only on the front seats. (deluxe or standard belts)

Many Mustang convertible owners used the "universal retractors" available over the counter at Ford. (made by borg-warner I believe) They slipped over the belt in the middle of the belt and kept them coiled out of the way as not to drag them along the roadways when commonly not used back through the 60's till 80's when seatbelt laws came about.

Well, that has been my understanding, maybe others know differently.

Mine only has the retractors, and they are marked as "Rotunda", so maybe aftermarket?

Dealer, over the counter or something a more recent owner (adding on options and cool parts)  add ones

To add to this info - because of the wider inside rocker reinforcement on a convertible the larger fastback/coupe front seatbelt retractor is not used on a convertible from the factory.

Thanks Bob, good to know the rhyme and reason behind this fact.
