1969 sports roof back seat
« on: August 11, 2014, 09:59:50 AM »
I'm trying to determine how many styles of back seats were available in 1969 for the sports roof.
1. The fold down back seat when folded makes the car into a two passenger car.  Like the earlier two plus two.
2. The seat configuration where the back of the back seat can fold down allowing for more storage area.
3.A real fixed back seat where nothing will move.

Or were their only two types of back seats and which ones were they?
As always I look forward to hearing from all of you.
Thanks

I think you've got this correct; there were only two:
1. fold-down, and 2. fixed/non-fold down.

That's the only two types that I've ever seen.  The non-fold down was standard and the fold-down seat was optional.
Too much junk, too little time.

Would you happen to have some pictures from the front and back of the fixed back seat.  If possible showing the attachment points and fasteners.
I realize this a big request but I'm stuck and can't seem to find anything useful on line.

Looks pretty much the same as a fold down from the front- the top has a metal rail that goes from side to side with a trim piece at each end.

The package tray is a metal frame topped with a insulating mat then the package tray. What you see looking through the back window

The rear part of the seat connects to the car at the bottom the same way as the fold down ones - one hinge at each end. Believe they are 1/2" bolts with intergrated washers plated and dyed red. Don't forget the shims

At the back the two L shaped brackets hold the top of the section to the fold down latch mounting points.

Hope these help

Thanks for the pictures they were very helpful.  I just have a few questions and I can get back to the car and you can get back to helping others with Mustang questions.
1 With a fixed back seat, when looking from the trunk towards the back seat you should only see the back of the back seat (that black metal piece)...correct?
2.With a fixed back seat, when looking from the trunk one should see body color extending all the way up to the front of the inner wheel well and trunk floor...correct?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Looking forward you should see the back (or top side in a fold down) of the first section of the fold down without any carpet and without any of the bright trim  - just the base, painted Dark Charcoal Metallic like the other dark interior pieces (well 95 %  of them ;) Like above in picture #4, #7 & #8

2.With a fixed back seat, when looking from the trunk one should see body color extending all the way up to the front of the inner wheel well and trunk floor...correct?

Depending on the plant, the worker and how much effort they put in (how much body color overspray was applied) you will normally find a mixture of body color, and primers (in pockets and corners as well as in the shadows from the paint gun)  on the forward area of the trunk floor and the wheel well surfaces in the interior. Remember the trunk mat is different on a non-fold down car and it extends further into the interior behind the seat so allot of the floor surface will be covered
