Topic: Rear Speaker option

I'm trying to determine if my 67 Mustang would have come from the factory with the rear speaker, or if this was simply a dealer installed option.  Also, mine has this unique knob under the dash by the parking brake, that is a mono "fader" to balance the sound from the single dash speaker and the single rear deck speaker.  Anyone seen these before?  Pics attached.

I found fade switch on a loaded 1969 Grande from Metuchen. Junk yard car from SoCal a bunch of years ago. It had a factory AM/FM or AM/8Track according to the buck tag code. I don't recall the rear speaker configuration. I do remember the that switch was installed under the dash, on the right side of the steering column.

I wonder if that fader switch is factory installed. It may be a dealer installed though. What does the wiring look like?

I recall only one instance of a rear speaker on an AM radio (cannot remember if it was a 67 or a 68) but the fader was a slide over the tuner shaft, outside the radio bezel, factory had left off the plastic do-hickey that holds the "balance" knob in a stationary posision, and put the fader in there.

Keep in mind that Ford documentation was often "generous".  Consider the number of 67's sold with speed control, yet there are several pages dedicated to it in the shop manual.  Then again there is the "W" code 68 documentation for something planned but never sold.  This leads me to believe that documentation came first (and sometimes the equipment came second...or never). 

Perhaps it was a pre-production or very early production model that was modified by Ford for testing and evaluation.  I would expect a very very low VIN for that.

How about some pictures of the wiring from the trunk side, and if possible under the dash.  That could also be telling.

 Ergonomically, that's a bad spot for the switch. IMHO I don't think Ford would have mounted it directly above the parking brake handle. Seems like it would scrape your hand whenever the brake was applied, as well as being awkward to manipulate.

I know there was a reverb available on 65 or 66s that had a rear speaker and a fader. The reverb was a rectangular box looking thing.

Aftermarket - both the switch  and speaker grill do not look like  Ford items from that year so likely not a dealer option as defined by any of the judging organizations.
