different valves?! What to do??
« on: August 09, 2014, 10:01:38 AM »
Hello,
I just bought a restored 289 long block from a builder in L.A.

The motor has a late December build date.  This mean it should have the valves and springs from change level 10 which have the retainer slot a tiny bit lower down on the valve stem and also a little bit shorter springs.

However, when I checked under the valve cover it has the shorter springs but only the "new" valves with the retainers mounted lower,  on the exhaust valves. The intake valves are the older style with the retainer slot 0.12" higher up on the valve.

This would mean a lower spring pressure on the intake valves - does this matter? Do I need to change the intake valves?

I am in Sweden so I can't just "pop over" to the guy and ask him to fix it...

thanks in advance,
Claes
