1967 390 fuel pump
« on: August 09, 2014, 12:14:53 AM »
I believe my Feb 67 390 would have a button top fuel pump but would it have the filter or not?  I've done some research and saw both types listed.

Buttontop no filter. One with filter was just Shelby because it didn't  have filter at carb like reg Mustang.

Ah, thank you kind sir, makes sense.   ;)

So the pump would be marked something like 4194 S?  Are these units date coded?

Thanks again for the help.

Yes on the same mounting surface - just the other side

A couple of pictures to help ;)

You can always tell the 67 style because it will have the 5/16 inlet and the 68/69 version has the larger 3/8 inlet.

Thanks for the info... and pictures... gentlemen.

I thought the units were stamped as you described but wasn't sure if that was 'correct'.

Let me take a shot at the date code.

March April 27 1967 1st shift ?

Jeff, I think you have a typo, looks like your fuel pump pic is a 4194S , not

Coincidentally  ;)  I think this is the fuel pump correct for my 67 390 4V non GT car?   Doubt if a non GT 390 car would have gotten a different fuel pump?

No, check that, April 27 is my car's build date, so not possible.

Probably hard to tell when installed on the car I guess?

I think you can tell by measuring the fuel line, they are different sizes.

If you need your vintage button top fuel pump rebuilt or want one one already rebuilt, look up FlyingFred.  I believe he is on this forum as well as the saac forum and ebay.  He's the only person I'm aware of that rebuilds the crimped style, button top fuel pumps.  I've done business with him a couple of times and he does good work and is a stand up guy.  You can reach him at fredsclassics@hotmail.com

Thanks, I'm dealing w/ Fred and just wanted to make sure I get a correct fuel pump for my car. At this time he has 68 date code parts which I'm not too concerned about but didn't know if the inlet size is an obvious difference when installed.  I wouldn't think so....

Like a lot of things It can be difficult to tell if you don't know what to look for and are not used to seeing various differences.
