69 vs 70 Instrument Cluster
« on: August 01, 2014, 09:13:45 AM »
I have a 70 cluster for my 69 unfortunately.  A friend has a 69 cluster that he's willing to swap for my 70. Both wood grain. The 70 almost looks like a light cherry finish. Can anyone tell me if the values between the two are the same and should be an even swap?

Thanks,
Mike

If the two clusters are the same condition and both have the same gauges, I would think it's an even swap. It starts becoming uneven if one cluster is in better shape than the other or one is a tach cluster and the other does not, etc.

Hey Mike I don't remember the particulars on your car so...  My car is an early production car September 68 Metuchen with 3A interior.  For 69 there were two styles appliques used Teak and Walnut and with seemingly no definitive plant or date.  The grain and color of the applique is applied in several other areas and you should probably try to match.  Don't forget the dash harness needs to have a correct plug in at the cluster. If you can get the correct style tach/no tach or warning lights vs gauges and with the correct matching applique a straight across swap would be the ideal situation.  My opinion of course.  Brian

IMHO if they are both deluxe wood grain ones, they have the same gauges (tach or no tach) and the condition (check the back side for burn outs and problems) then they are equal since your getting what you need and getting rid of something you don't.   I would want to see if they had the matching passenger side and your going to need to consider what your using for the inserts for the door panels. you might have a bunch of different panels as far as tone and tint
