Service parts were marked like that. I have some still in the Ford boxes with those markings . The repros from the 90's were terrible in comparison. it has been just within the last 6 or 7 years that the repro plates have the appearance of the genuine ones except that they are typically powdercoated black.

One of the negitives of some service parts. The hard to find spring plates may be NOS but they look different in some way . In this case stamped MUS.

Here is the left and right plate off my 12/66 Shelby.  One appears to be marked with two dots, the other is a Hex with an H.

 Was this to distinguish between the Cougar which joined the Mustang on the San Jose assembly line for 68?

Comparison of Cougar and Mustang shock plates. Cougar shock plates are larger because they were equipped with rubber ISO Clamps for a quieter ride.

Were there any variants on shackle nuts used on the '67 variants? I have seen flanged nuts, and a long hex nut with no flange. I used the AMK offering, which is a flanged nut.

Not at San Jose that I recall. Haven't looked at what the other two plants did in this area through the whole production year.
