Strange stud on 65/66 brake pedal?
« on: July 23, 2014, 03:13:29 PM »
I have restored numerous 65/66 clutch/brake pedal assemblies but this one has me stumped.  The physical dimensions of both the clutch and brake pedals are identical to what I know to be original 65/66 clutch/brake pedal assemblies.  This one has a stud welded to the pivot point of the brake pedal.  It is 1 7/16" long, 3/4" wide and 3/16" thick.  It definitely appears to be a factory weld.  Does anyone know for what application this one could have been used?

I have one like that, it limits the travel of the pedal toward the driver.
Have seen others with a larger piece welded on that also has a rubber bumper.

I've seen it before.  Basically, When the factory ran out of Brackets that hold the rubber bumper stoppers, They just simply had people in the welding department weld these tabs on the brake pedal ends to create the "stopper".  The only problem with the welded tab ones is that when you let go of the brake pedal, You will hear a distinct "clunk" as it hits the top of the dash when it stops the brake pedal on the return.  I have a couple of these "welded tab" ones.  They are nowhere as good as the ones with the actual brackets and rubber stoppers in my humble opinion.  I believe the practice by using the "welded tabs" continued through 1966, possibly also 1967.  It was actually pretty common believe it or not.
