Strange tab on 65 brake pedal?
« on: July 20, 2014, 11:09:28 PM »
I've restored a lot of 65/66 clutch and brake pedal assemblies but I've never come across one before that has a tab welded to the pivot point of the brake pedal.  It definitely is a factory weld but I have no idea of its original application.  Anyone have any ideas?

I've seen it before.  Basically, When the factory ran out of Brackets that hold the rubber bumper stoppers, They just simply had people in the welding department weld these tabs on the brake pedal ends to create the "stopper".  The only problem with the welded tab ones is that when you let go of the brake pedal, You will hear a distinct "clunk" as it hits the top of the dash when it stops the brake pedal on the return.  I have a couple of these "welded tab" ones.  They are nowhere as good as the ones with the actual brackets and rubber stoppers in my humble opinion.  I believe the practice by using the "welded tabs" continued through 1966, possibly also 1967.  It was actually pretty common believe it or not.
