69 351W FMX slip yoke u-joint question
« on: July 14, 2014, 03:23:05 PM »
Hi all,

My old spline yoke has some wear on it and i want to change it + the bushing in the extension housing, so i bought a new Ford racing
31 spline slip yoke. I think it uses the 1330 3 5/8" u-joint. But, original it should be a 1310 3 7/32" for the original FMX 31 spline yoke.
All the stores sell me these 1310 u joints for the original 351W FMX setup. Now im confused about this new Ford racing yoke, because it uses the bigger u-joint. Is it a problem when i use front the 1330 u-joint and at rear the 1310?

Thank you

greets

Christopher

If the 1330 bearing caps will fit into the driveshaft yolk shouldn't be a problem.  Of course you could always ask a pro.  Brian

If the width is not the correct one for both the yoke and the driveline  there will be problems with the retaining clips, centering or other issues.

Use to speed hours going through U joint specs when I use to modify cars - drove the shops crazy so they would just toss me the book and say have at it.

Had a 51 Chevy at one time - 55 rear end, 69 Turbo trans and a Ford driveline

Why they are producing new 31 spline slip yokes for use with u-joints that are bigger. Now i have the problem that i need a u-joint with 3 5/8" width for the yoke and 3 7/32" for the driveline. Are there some assymetric u-joints available?
