1969 Washer Reservoir Color and Cap Numbers

I've been restoring an original washer reservoir bottle and have two questions I hope someone can answer for me

1. Were the 69 washer reservoirs originally bright white in color like the reproductions or were they more a yellowish, off white color?

2. My original cap has the part number (C9ZF-17B613-A) on it and below it "12$". Can anyone tell me what the 12$ stood for? I have also seen a C9ZF-17B613 cap with a 11$, a 2$, or a 1$ below it. I want to make sure I have the correct cap.

To me they were white - not sure if "bright" would be the correct term (like some of the reproductions)  but they were (from my memory and pictures) solid, consistent clean looking  slightly opaque white. Ones on 50 year old cars - not matter how well maintained some have yellowed and aged so hard to compare the old with what was new. Not sure why some do yellow more than others

Think it might be a mold mark - possibly month and maker but that is just a guess. Have never seen anything to suggest who was the sub contractor so no one to contact and ask


As for cleaning believe allot depends on how bad your is to start. Some suggestions offered in the past have been 
- hydrogen peroxide
- powder type dishwasher soap dissolved in water
- denture tablets
- white vinegar
- Oxyclean

Thanks very much for the information. I have done some research over the past week and I may try to whiten up my bottle by following the recipe on the Retr0Bright website (http://retr0bright.wikispaces.com/Retr0Bright+Gel). They mix a solution of hydrogen peroxide and an "Oxy" laundry booster. Just concerned I may blow the roof off the garage if I mix it incorrectly!

I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

My original unrestored Dearborn built 70 Mach I washer reservoir is white and still has a Jan. 28 1970 date stamp on it. My 70 Metuchen built Boss is also white. No date stamp visible.
Both have the same C9ZF-17B613-A engineering # on them plus the $ 1 and $ 11 #s
