Topic: Mach 1 moldings

Happy Father days to all! OK so i was in my garage last night and I thought I would pull my 1970 mach 1 moldings off. I took the front ones off of the fenders OK. Should the fender be the car color under the molding?I had white paint OK .I find it hard to believe this is factory but it did have a thick run down the bottom part of the fender.  My cars suppose to be black according to my mart ii  report which concurs with that.I know my car was involved in a accident at one time for sure because they put a 69  radiator support on it! also is there a kit or someway of repairing my moldings  it seems someone broke  the pins off on the back side or am i out of luck? I know they reproduce these but would like original. I could post pics of the weird paint lol Mark

No it would not be factory or "normal" to find different color under the molding. Sounds more like someone taped it off during a respray.

If you do a search you may find an earlier thread that discusses the blackout process used behind the molding but it was black

Just be aware that the method and areas covered appears to differ (as usual) from plant to plant

My car  was built in  the   mutuchen  plant  and was delivered to a  dealership in Alabama .

i heard jb weld can aid in repairing the missing studs, but i dont know if that will work. Im waiting to hear how to fix them also

At the missing pin location I drilled & tapped a hole for a #10 bolt.  Cut the head off of a #10 bolt and used to red lock tite to keep in place.  Then touched up the hole on the outside of the molding before painting and used tin nuts to attach to the fender.

I might try the jb weld thing, what are tin nuts? they were supose to be acorn nuts  right?

Believe he's referring to the sheet metal nuts with large shoulders like those shown in the shaker trim ring discussion (as PAL nuts) and using them to strengthen the attachment point when you incorporate them with the JB Weld
