69-70 Heater Delete Pics
« on: June 13, 2014, 07:47:19 PM »
Ed had requested in a thread on another site so rather than taking that one off focus I thought I would share here   Unfortunately I don't have a collection of all of these parts so I have to rely on my collection of pictures instead ;)

Because of where the car was being shipped, optioned or how the original buyer choose a very few Mustangs each year received no heater.

69-70 Heater Delete

This first picture is of what was described by the owner as the block off plate (sort of round plate) the plate retainer (strap in the lower left that would go across the opening on the interior side and be held in place by the center nut and stud on the plate) and the black heater control panel. Can't confirm or dispute at this point ;)

This is reported to be a 70 heater delete plate

Engine side

Interior side. Like the earlier plates it seems to install from the interior side and be held in place by studs and nuts through existing holes in the firewall

An original in place on a 70 NJ car (possibly an export) Note that it looks like a PO added a section of plumbers tape to stabilise something they added - possibly a CB or underdash 8 track player :(

Thanks jeff & I don't know what to think about the 69 version being so much different than all other years & looks like it wouldn't stay in place & fall out of place as being flat & all & what about the dash control plate is openings blocked off or just no knobs & levers used?  There is a autolite 4 door service writers dest in your area on e-bay for pick up only & just $75.00 & they go for a lot more than that & you should buy it for that cheap price

Can't make allot os assumstions based on this single example - and the reason I worded my post the way I did. WOuld guess that there were possibly covers over the slots in the unmarked control panel if they followed the 67-68 example

The clamp method of retaining the plate is odd and different - would work but would agree that the 70 example shown looks more like the other. We will not know until more are found and looked at

Its a bit more that $75 but not by much. Will likely pick it up this next week though like the other dealer stuff not sure what I'll do with it . Las one I saw was an earlier version at a local yard sale - didn't buy that one

Can't have everything ;)
