AC drain line
« on: June 08, 2014, 09:10:57 PM »
Hello all.  Does anybody have a picture and/or measurements showing the hole that was in the floor board where the AC drain line passed through?  I replaced my floors and do not have a reference anymore. :'(  Also, the 1967 electrical assembly manual shows a clip to hold the drain line to the floor (page 87).  I do not remember seeing this clip before.  Does anybody have pictures or reference if this clip was actually used in production? The car is a December '66 built San Jose car.  Thanks in advance.

I can look in the morning, my car is mostly apart right now, but the AC unit is still in there.

Here are some pics.

Top down...
1. Big picture
2. Should rotate clockwise 90 degrees.  Tape reference holding in the indentation in the floor pan to the right of the hole
3. Same as #2 showing hole center line at 3.5"
4. Hole diameter is about 15/16"
5. Tape reference line at the curve of the "shoulder" directly above the hole

67gta289,
Thank you for the pictures and measurements.  I see their is not a little hole next to the big one that would indicate their was a clip with a screw holding the drain hose in place.  I am going to assume that the assembly manual is incorrect again.
Thanks again,
John

There is a hole is image # 4, you can see it plainly if your screen is large enough or you zoom in above the large hole.  My 68 does have a little clip that is retained by a somewhat tiny screw.  It is a problem to install on the (reproduction) drain hose, but it finally went into place.  The retaining ring is pretty small and delicate and probably rusts away and breaks in half on most cars or is not noticed and thrown away with the original hose.  Hope you are able to locate what you need.

I am about 100% sure SJ cars didn't use the bracket in 67's. At least not on my car. Here are a couple shots while it is together. I left the wire clamp down low for easy cleaning of the hose which plugged up a couple times, making for a really cold foot washing while cornering right turns!

That is a incorrect hose, it must have been replaced. The correct hose is corrugated rubber and has a ring molded in the base for the clamp we are disusing.

I  wouldn't swear by the hose, though I don't  remember changing it.  I believed it to be original with the wire style clamp. I suppose if it tore on one of those occasions when the AC drain backed up, I might have switched it out. The floor panel is OE. No strap or sign of one ever being there.

"That is a incorrect hose..."
:D That is incorrect English too, but it got the job done...I understood you clearly, just as this (quite probable) wrong hose got the condensation water out...or job done at the time:D

Here is what I believe to be an original hose from 7F01C129xxx.  Hose crumbled in my hands when it was removed.  There was no clamp to the floor but certainly might have been removed at some point in time.

My English may not be perfect but I do know a thing or two about Mustangs. Here is what the clamp looks like. I am sure your car never had one even though it was built with in two weeks of the car pictured in SJ. If you think everything is correct on your car why ask questions here.

The topic here is '67 SJ build, and from my reading the development and information contained within this thread, there were differences between the 67's and 68's. Since I have '68 SJ, is there any value to me including info or pix from my 68 (?), if there is I will post what I have on hand. The interior corrugated hose is on mine like 67gta289's car, but mine has what could be a plastic hose fitting attached to the floor/firewall with one screw just below the hose or fitting. At this time I only have the pictures available, and would have to look at the car when I get home to confirm. But in the one picture I have it looks like there is an aluminum strip below the hose that may be what the screw is holding in place. The thing that bothers me about the hose arrangement on mine is that there is very little hose extending outside the car which looks like the dripping water ends up on the firewall and floor to eventually cause rust.

A picture would be great. As long as the supporting text describes the year and assembly plant the confusion if any should be minimal. I have certainly appreciated the pictures you have shared in the past.

This thread has been for the consideration of a Dec 66 SJ build of a '67 Mustang. I can only offer pictures of my June SJ build of a '68 Mustang. I am posting pictures that I currently have available which will show the drain hose on the interior and on the exterior of the firewall.
On the interior, I had pulled back the carpeting, but for this conversation I wish I had pulled the carpet back further. On the interior side, it looks like there is an aluminum strip extending down below the hose as it passes through the floor/firewall. There is a screw also below the hose as evidenced by the presence of a screw protruding through the firewall into the engine bay. So I believe that the screw attaches a hard plastic fitting that is attached to the firewall by the screw. Since I do not see a clamp on the corrugated flexible hose, I assume it's a force fit onto the fitting. As I mentioned, this is only my theory as I need to look closer at it since I have never taken one of these connections apart. Perhaps the flex hose has the metal strip permanently attached as a one piece unit so the hose is attached to the floor with the screw and then to the heater box with the spring clamp.
If the first picture is enlarged and then by using the actual size button at the top of the picture screen, I believe the very tip of the screw can be seen.

I edited to add the third picture 'cause the first picture did not show the spring clamp.

Thanks to all who posted.  I appears that at some point the San Jose plant started using these clamps (1967?).  If you look at the first pictures of 67gta289's floors, it is apparent that the floor pans are original and their is not a small hole for the attaching screw.  Since his car was built within days of mine, then the best I can do it go without the clamp.  I am still interested in when the change may have happened and why Ford decided they needed to add this.
Thanks again to all,
John
