Topic: 1966 convertible under hood paint color

I am looking at a 66 convertible which is reputed to have 20K original miles. The underside of the hood is flat black, is this the factory color? Thank you in advance.

it should be body color. check for date codes in lower corners where hinges are.

Thanks. One more thing. Did the factory install a 4 speed toploader or a T-10.  This one has a toploader.

Wow. I think I have found a 30 year old restoration that has been driven.  It has the patina of an original car on the underside but I now believe that it is the second time around.  Thanks guys.

Due to a toploader transmission shortage, Ford also installed T-10 transmissions in V8 Mustangs for 1966 only, except HP. In 1965, the T-10 was not used on V-8 Mustangs, all toploaders. I don't know about 64.

+1.  Midlife (1966 GT fastback from NJ in early January) came with a T-10, and 10 years ago, I swapped it out with a correct toploader, never looked back.

BTW, the toploader came from Mustang Masters (Fast Freddy) at a reasonable price.
