Carlite Sun X Tinted Windshield
« on: May 12, 2014, 07:37:09 PM »
Found this windshield locally last week before being posted on eBay.  It is in beautiful condition.  5A date code, otherwise I would have bought it.

With the ability to etch glass, I don't have the knowledge to attest to authenticity, but can offer to assist any fellow members here in getting more details.  PM me if that is the case.

Listed at $450.

Here are a couple extra pics not on eBay.

The Carlite logo is the later one.  The cursive script type would be correct for at least 65-68.

Thanks.  So is the 5A 1975 or 1985?

Yes, most likely, or possibly even 1995.  Ford was still selling these windshields well into the 90's if not into the '00's also.  Believe NPD bought up all the remaining ones that Ford had, but some of the newer ones have the oval script logo, although there are some incorrect details here and there.

On a related note - Charles you were going to try out ECS Automotive's replacement glass with factory correct etchings.  Were you happy with their product?

Yes, turned out nice.  The front vent frame glass was not made right though.

Good to know. What was wrong with the vent frame glass?  How was the windshield?  That's what I'm looking to purchase from them.

The top corners of the vent frames were pointed instead of rounded, would not fit right in the original vent frames.

Windshield and rest of glass was nice.
