66 engine bay paint question

I'm trying to figure out at what point in the assy was the engine bay painted semi-gloss black. Were both sides of the radiator support painted semi-gloss black in this process? This would be on my black '66 Hertz.

The engine bay was the last big area to be painted (after exterior paint, undercarriage and interior).

The amount of black on the outside of the inner fender panels varies, but it's typical to see about 75% or more coverage.  I'm sure Jeff has some examples.

Yes both the front and rear face of the radiator support were normally painted as was the front cross member

Easiest way to think of the application of the black on the engine compartment walls for me is that from the cowl to firewall pinch weld down ward and forward. And on the outer surface of the inner fenders - from rear spalsh shield attachment point on one side to the one on the other.

The application, since little or no effort was made to bend over much :) by the painters did produce shadows often/sometimes on the rear surface of the radiator support  right under the lip, in the pockets behind the hood bumper brackets and under the inner fenders where the lip is formed - at the fender attachment point

Insides of the shock/front spring pockets often got little paint right at the very top and the forward and rear surfaces of this  pocket that would surround the coil sprung may be a little thinner than the back surface but they were painted black normally leaving no visible red oxide

The black at the rear of both inner fenders/frame - the wheel well was blacked either by direct application or very heavy overspray all the way down to the frame rail typically

Not much to show in pictures - everything pretty much gets black that one could see from standing above, to the side or to the  front on the majority of cars .

Lastly,  the trans mount support bracket, 66 motor mount brackets, engine cross brace lower all would be gloss black? Were these mentioned pieces bolted in when the semi gloss paint was sprayed into the engine compartment. If so, they would be predominately gloss black with some semi-gloss over spray?

None of the above were installed in the car yet, no overspray.
Instead of the "what", concentrate on the "how". Picture this scenario: the guy doing the engine compartment painting stood on one side with the spray gun and dangling hose. The car had the undercoated primer done, the interior was painted and masked, the body was painted and masked and there was nothing in the engine compartment. I assume the holes in the firewall were masked too (heated, steering column, etc). In a general order, sprayed from top to bottom, the first area sprayed was the inside of the radiator support; the opposite inside fender apron and its top; the painter then moved back and around to the front where the firewall was painted up under the cowl weld and down to as far as could be reached without touching any painted area; the front of the radiator support with some overspray on the strut rod brackets; the opposite side inside fender apron; and done. The time allotted was not much. This was explained to me by a former San Jose painter (he had a 65 Fastback too) about 15 years ago. I don't remember if this operation included the front fender areas at this time or if that was another painter's job.

66 motor mount brackets,

 The frame to engine mount brackets - bare steel - Off the car. Don't forget to redo the heat process the welding would have originally produced ;)

engine cross brace lower all would be gloss black?

Believe your asking about the tubular bar under the engine - if so yes gloss black - likely dipped

Were these mentioned pieces bolted in when the semi gloss paint was sprayed into the engine compartment.
