export brace and monte carlo bar
« on: May 07, 2014, 02:05:48 AM »
Question with regards to paint on these two items as they relate to my 66 Shelby. First I would like to know if the export brace was painted semi-gloss black consistent with the rest of the engine bay?

As for the monte carlo bar that was installed by Shelby after the engine compartment was painted semi gloss. What was the sheen of the paint on the bar. Since it was an add on it is not likely the the sheen will be the same as the engine bay but possibly. I just need to rule out gloss black if that is the case and go with a semi gloss that is a bit different than the engine bay. Any input on hardware type and finish would be helpful too.

thanks Ray

It would have been shot at a different place, different time with a different brand of paint typically. Alwas appear to be slightly glossier than the engine compartment walls to me

Again  different supplier and slightly glossier to fair amount glossier than the engine compartment walls. Have seen with allot of paint and even runs on the originals - hung from one end hanging downward

Of course one bolt on each side was reused the others may depend on when the car was converted at Shelby.

What car number are you working on?

For that period my best guess would be that the extra - bolt would be one with the star washer like used for fenders in 65. The other two are just the same shock/spring cover bolts with the flat washer as all the others on the car. All phosphate & oil

Hope this helps

Two examples - one built before yours and one after- removal and replacement often changed the location of the odd/different bolt but normally it ended up in one of the two top holes
