1964 1/2 firewall holes, unsure if original

Can anyone tell me if these two holes are original? And if so what goes in them? Perhaps a firewall pad retaining pin? June 64 Dearborn car.

Drivers side is original and as you guessed for the firewall pad retainer :)




Passenger side above the heater - has been added :(

What would be your recommendation to cover this? A spot of strip caulk or leave be??

Make it go away (hide it) some way. If your not going to weld (don't tell anyone) maybe a little epoxy, coat of paint then a drizzle of chalking from the cowl to pinch weld seam would help ;)

Going to hear from others that I suggested this
