Topic: 1970 Emissions Vapor Tube from Charcoal Canister to Air Cleaner

Hey Fellahs,

I saw the post in the "for sale" section for a '71+ emissions vapor vent tube that goes from the charcoal canister to the air cleaner.  http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=8457.0

I noted in Mac's picture that his tube appears to be completely paper, inside and out.  I pulled my own damaged vapor tube out of its bin to compare. 
My tube is corrugated, like all I have seen, and has the paper outside, but the inside is rubber lined.  Length is about 33" or so (the ends are pretty ragged), and it has a 3/4" inside diameter.

What do the original / correct vaport tubes actually look like (for a '70) inside and out so that I will be able to recognize one if I see it?

Don't recall ever seeing a rubber lined one. Maybe a different supplier or a later service piece. Once they became hard to find some were still able to buy the Bronco ones - like the one for sale. Where they could be cut down to do two cars.

Will try and remember to take a couple of them and shot a picture - hopefully we can see the inner liner in the pictures.

I have seen probably hundreds of these hoses in their original form in the mid 70's thru 80's and on. mostly in the southern California area if it matters, but the same holds true. They were all like the one pictured in the eBay sale, a 3-layered spiral paper surrounding a foil inner layer tubing that easily crushed and broke at the spiral seam whenever being handled. Rare to find one in good condition even in that era. Smog inspections required good ones so the dealerships carried the service replacement in the day and they were all the same too. I never sought one elsewhere when needed. I do seem to recall seeing a few aftermarket ones later on. Maybe this one you speak of is an aftermarket variety.

The hoses are sold by Bill Upham at Mansfield Restoration parts under part number D0AZ-9D667-A, it seems to look identical to the one being sold in the E-Bay auction.

Likely a service replacement rather than original. Of course we've documented allot of parts where the service replacements were not exactly like original.

I attached a photo of the hose I bought from Mansfield a couple of years ago. The hose that was on my car looks like the one in the photo posted by Jeff, but it was kind of beat up, seemed a bit short and I also did not know if it was correct. So the one that arrived from Mansfield looked the same as the one I already had (but quite a bit longer) and the one the one in Jeff's photos, as far as I can tell. The plastic sleeve is removable by the way and evidently had some sort of label that was already partly removed.

Ok, while we are on the subject of the Paper Vapor Tube, what are the correct clamps for holding it in place at both ends?

70 Dearborn  - Arrow looks like it may be the end of the stud from the bolt of a clamp

The ones I remember from out of so.Cal. area, the clamps were a smaller version of what was used on 66-67 Thermactor Hoses, I suppose they were Wittek, never checked for a name. A (5/16"?)hex head with a slot to tighten them as I recall. Correct, clamped only on the canister end and pushed onto the plastic nipple in the air cleaner.

Wittek #6 clamp, looks like the same clamp was used until 1973. All of mine are Dearborn cars.
