Paint OK stamps 1964 1/2 Dearborn
« on: May 02, 2014, 01:26:01 PM »
Does anyone have any pics or evidence of paint OK stamps used at Dearborn for 1964 1/2/ production?? I would like to reproduce this stamp if any existed. Thanks for a reply.

I guess your referring to the "base ball diamond"

Believe there are two different sizes but only the larger one was used for the paint, body and final inspectors. The others were for things like electrical

Made some for a 66 Dearborn - to match originals one of the member has. Are you looking for typical locations?   Only seen maybe three different inspector's numbers if I recall correctly

Any info would be greatly appreciated. My next project is also a Dearborn coupe. A Sahara beige 66 built at the very end of 1966 production. Perhaps one of the inspectors stamps span both cars builds? That would be cool to reproduce? Either way, I would love the ability to get a stamp made. How does one go about this?

................... Either way, I would love the ability to get a stamp made. How does one go about this?

One spends about 20-plus hours doing the graphics in the program of their choice - I use two different ones to produce mine. Not too bad if you have a graphic art background.  Then you find a shop that will make the stamp without changing anything after you do a dozen or so test for size and expansion.;)

Four out of five stamp makers will still  screw things up even though you provide them with camera ready art.  :(

Jeff, can you or a member supply me with a good digital picture of a correct stamp? Then give me an estimate size of it and I'll try to get one produced locally. Thanks for any help!

After reading reply #3 it seems like taking a lot for granted to ask for someone's else's extensive work and expect them to just hand it over so you can rep the benefit without having to do any of the work . They may well freely give it  but courtesy and custom typically involves a offer of some compensation or donation or pay it forward . I don't know what a graphics shop charges per hour . Maybe you can ask around to get a idea.   Just a thought.

I agree and would be willing to compensate for such a pic. But, I am very open to helping anyone in this hobby just the same. I see us true hobbyists as stewards of these cars and that one day when we can no longer take care of them or enjoy them they are then passed down or sold to someone else.  I want to simply keep my car as correct as possible, even for the next one in line to take care of her. I felt this website was a sharing community and if I had such a stamp, picture, or item that could keep this history going I wouldn't think twice in helping out the next person in line.

Think the site has gone to great lengths to push the understanding and sharing of information pretty freely since we opened it.  At the same time I'm constantly reminded of the tens of thousands of hours and dollars some have invested it collecting this information. And some here make their living from that knowledge and experiences. I don't see often on other sites of people who do roofing, engineering, painting, writing books,..... offering to give of their efforts, so freely as we see here

At the same time IMHO I think everyone here should understand that there can be some limitations to how far any of us want to stretch their good will and if that limit is reached they should not be ridiculed for having those limits. But at the same time there should be no problem with a participating member asking for help or assistance in making their restoration a better one - though I'll not offer much support for someone trying to get there aftermarket injection or their 24" wheels to work here on this site  ;)

Since you asked for a picture of an original Dearborn PAINT stamp I'm kind of surprised out of the thousands of members someone didn't post one as of yet. The only issue I've seen in the past is once a  owner gets a stamp all the friends want to stamp their cars too - no matter when or where their cars were built :(

Unfortunately the old stampings are often not complete or really clear

Here is one of the better examples - the headlight bucket will likely provide a great scale if you choose to redraw it

Can't recall where I got this from or who - sorry but thanks

Thanks Jeff for the response. I by no means want to sound to be ridiculing anyone. My feeling that whether it is a picture of a paint OK stamp or a person I know who has that one NOS part someone needs, if I feel comfortable, then I will certainly pass along any good usable info I can to better the hobby. I don't think I came off sounding like I expected or wanted a stamp from anyone, just a good pic to try and recreate it locally. I have actually asked a few others locally but have not had much luck. I have offered my services to some local "mustangs"out of kindness and have been rewarded simply by gratitude and not money. This is not seen as work to me and therefor I don't expect compensation. But, everyone has a right to their opinion. Thanks again, I will try and see if I can accomplish this.

+1

Here's a pic of one I found behind my headlight door, don't think it's that good of an example to use though...
