Topic: Thermostat housing, Early 65 FB

Looking for a thermostat housing for 65 FB 289.. Build date Oct 64.. Therefore it needs to be a housing with no recess for thermostat. No chrome please. Cast aluminum only. Thanks

Vinny,
 You need a cast iron water outlet, not aluminum. Aluminum was only used on 289 HP engines. It's still without the tapped hole on top.

The aluminum water outlet housing was used on the 289 A, C, D and F code engines. It was not unique to the HP engine only.

Hello , thanks for the responses. It sounds like an aluminum was only used on HIPO engines? And that i need a cast iron housing without the thermostat recess and without the tapped fitting on the top? I have 2 part numbers.. C4OE-8592A or C3OE-8592A. Or should i get a C5OE-8592A? I thought the C5 housing was when they incorporated the recess in the housing and removed the recess from the intake. Any help in locating the proper one would be appreciated. These things are hard to find.. All i can seem to find are the recess in the housing part..

I've never heard of a cast iron t-stat housings used on 65-66 289 motors.

Original C4OE from my Oct 64 SJ hipo, no recess for thermostat.  C4OE-8594-A is the full number according to Bob Mannel's book.  Aluminum.  The book does not say they are unique to hipo's.

+1, haven't heard of a unique hi-po t-stat housing.  Would be interested in learning where that information was found?  Maybe start a new topic in main forum?

also unlikely since the HiPo used the same intake manifold as the A & C code cars.
