Put together a quick visual guide on the headlight adapters that came with all the 1969 Mustangs and how they were actually used.  If anyone has questions or comments let me know.

I don't have a part number on my original or my repro bag which is the case with those you pictured too.
I presume the instruction card part number never changed up from A to B like the aimers?
I didn't know about the A and B aimer versions so I checked what I have, and it's one of each.
I scrounged them loose (no sign of any bags) at the wreckers years ago and never looked close enough to realize I picked up mismatches.
I need the A version for my early car, but don't have a proper set of either version.
Could be worse though, imagine if the bags and cards had changed too.
I did notice that the service manual illustration is of a different version of the tool in your pictures.

Yep, I don't see a reason for the instruction card to have changed at all.
As for the aimers you are correct.  I did not have the earlier version of the headlight aimers to use for the pictures but they work exactly the same.  I just used what I have to show them attached on the car.  Thanks for posting pictures.

Have you or have you run across anyone that has found the paper tag insert (instructions) on/in an original car?

I've not - only remember seeing these after they started reproducing/making these in the 80's

I will need to look around.  Its always been my understanding they came in the glove box.  The main reason I mentioned it is because some people have put this paper tag insert inside of the actual aimer bag which is not correct for sure after having seen so many original un-opened bags.

I have 3 or4 original cards here & first 1 I found in a 69 mustang owners manual stuffed in between pages back in early 80s Carlisle swap meet & nobody knew what it was back then.  Then when I found a aimer bag in a ford dealership I figured out why it was used & in 1 of my mid 80s ford dealership parts trip & found 4 unopened bags in a backroom closet of old dealer & asked guy working in rotunda alignment rack about them & he said he only opened 1 bag of 69 mustang headlite aimers & kept using them over & thru the others in the closet.  I also found a torn open bag with aimers stuffed back in bag after use & old dirtycard wadded up in torn bag with used aimer rings.  In 743mi. red b9 with tempory paper plates on car when we first opened up the locked trunk since spring 69 (the OO lost the keys) I was there & photoed 2 sets of bags in the trunk so did they send 2 sets with every car for all 4 headlites to be aligned at once?

Ed....I still think there should only be one set of adapters in the trunk.  The card and the bag and the service manual all talk about the "outboard lights".  They would not be needed for the inboard lights.  I took pictures so its easier to see how they would actually be used.  I never understood until I took them out and used them on the car what they would have been for.  Now I can go around and aim everyone's headlights at all the shows for $20.  I will make millions.

Though I've never found the paper tag in a 69 have only found one set (one bag of two) in cars.   Have seen the paper tag placed in repo bags years ago - figured that the guy reproducing them just didn't want to spend the dollars to have the printing put on the bags to make them right.  Sure a line worker could easily dumped two in a trunk from time to time - would not be the first time we've seen a mistake like that

Someone finding the glove box tag inserted in an opened bag could have given some one back in the 80's the wrong idea as it seems.

In the 70's must admit that I found some out of a bag and they looked like aftermarket air cleaner adapters so they got tossed

The red 743 mi. early b9 that had 2 sets in the trunk yet from 69 & I think being a early b9 with 2 sets of invoices & 2 drivetrains & 2 sets of serial #s & a 892000 dso # maybe why 2 bags were in the trunk remember the early 69 b9s had a 428scj drivetrain in them at dearborn when they were shipped to KK then removed & b9 drivetrain reinstalled so this might explain the 2 bags confusion as I took a photo of them when trunk was first opened since 1969 & lost key was finally found around 93 when I was there with randy s.   I still have a 69 b9 bought from OO back in 86 & openedbag was still in trunk & white paper instructions card.  I found a bag with aimers in the rh wheelhouse bottom trunk drop in a junkyard once but the best way offinding them is in old ford dealership in the rotunda alignment rack area cabinets.

The card came in the owners manual packet. The headlight aimers came in the trunk of car. The card explained the need for the headlight aimers to align headlights.

I bought a set of head light aiming tools in the case and it came with the 69 adapters in sealed bag. Still one of my best buys for a $1.

   Sad to say, the headlight adapters were never in the trunk of my car, didn't know I was supposed to even have them at the time.
