Fan Shroud Brackets
« on: April 14, 2014, 09:06:49 PM »
I recently found a '65 6-Cylinder Fan Shroud but am still in need of the Brackets. If anyone has a set they would like to sell or if not for sale, would someone consider lending them to me or be willing to trace the Brackets onto paper so that I can make my own set?

Thanks

Ray

Did you ever find any brackets?  I am in need of a set as we'll.

Thanks, Dave

I didn't find any but another member was kind enough to send me one of his originals. So far, I have made one copy as I experiment with different processes to make these. I'm making one for him and four for myself.

Once I figure out the best way to reproduce these I may make more for other people in need. At this stage however, it's far too time consuming to do entirely by hand. I'm in the process of making a jig for the bends and a rudimentary dye to produce the threaded hole. First I need to make one more to use as a model so I can return the original and a copy to the person who lent me his. If successful, I will contact you and would be more than happy to make a set for you.

I've attached a few photos. My reproduction is identical to the original but has some tool marks that are unavoidable; the next few, through the help of the jig, should do away with that.

Nice work Ray. It is good to see some of the tough parts being reproduced for the 6 cil. cars.

Thank you. There are other parts that I'm looking into for the six that no one reproduces; Metal Strap for AC Hoses, (same for 8 Cyl.) and Rubber Damper for the Accelerator Linkage.

I reproduce the C8OA - 18954 - A metal clamps if that is what you are looking for. I just bumped them to the top of the For Sale section.  I also may have the rubber damper you are looking for.

Thanks Marty. I already have 2 of the Dampers; one is so perfect that, I can use it as a Template to make others. The Strap I'm talking about attaches to the Firewall / Shock Tower Brace. I just received one in excellent condition from which I can reproduce others.

I also need to make a correction to my last post. The Strap is not the same for 6 and 8 Cylinders. The 8 Cylinder Strap is shaped to hold two AC Hoses; the 6 is shaped to hold just one. To the best of my knowledge this applies for the pre-'67 models. Not a great picture...sorry.

Ray,

keep me posted on the brackets.  I am in for a set if you get the process down to make them.

Thanks, Dave

Dave,

I've since been informed that Classic Auto Air makes reproduction Brackets for the six that I understand are exactly as the originals. I plan to buy a set to see for myself. I'll let you know what I find.
