Correct finish for a 1964 1/2 master cylinder cap
« on: April 02, 2014, 03:26:29 PM »
Just wanted to get this straight. What is the correct finish for a 1964 1/2 master cylinder cap,(this is a June built Dearborn car),? I have seen the gold cadmium plating, like the 66' model year, and have also seen them painted black. If it is indeed painted black, then would it be semi gloss or gloss?? Were they painted with the master cyclinder? I have heard this also. Thanks!

i would expect to see the domed style on cars that early. 002 has been restored. 001 has been maintained.

Jason's website shows an example of the earlier style M/C cap, scroll down to #35

Anyone have any idea when the cap style was changed?

The break master cylinder cap for 64 1/2 (like my June '64) is the flatter style cap, made of copper, and finished in semi gloss black. I'll post a picture of mine later today.

Here are a few pictures of a correct master cylinder cap for 64 1/2s. They can be hard to find. I got mine off eBay a few years back.

So now the question is would the "standard" master cylinder cap diaphragm work on this early style cap or does the early style have a unique diaphragm??

I have seen no diaphragm in the early style cap, just a rubber seal along the edge.
