Steering Column Bearing
« on: April 01, 2014, 12:43:23 AM »
Just curious if anyone has had any experience with one Bearing over the other in terms of Durability, Noise, etc.?

Also, any Lubricant recommendations for the Bearing?

Thanks

I'd use the metal one, wouldn't want a plastic bushing binding and possibly breaking inside of there.

Regular lithium grease is all that is required.

Is the metal one original and the plastic a repo?
I only remember seeing the metal ones in the cars I have worked on

As far as I know, the Metal Sleeve is original; the Plastic a Replacement. I believe that Ford originally made this Replacement and is what is now Reproduced...I may be incorrect. Can anyone shed some light on this?

NOS Ford Bearings are nylon and were sold under p/n B1AZ-3518-A in a package of four. The full name is Steering Column Bearing Sleeve, abbreviated on the package. I agree with Charles about using a metal one instead of the nylon type, but mostly for originality than reliability. I only used one on a car with a lot of lithium grease.
