7R02C156xxx, restored by me in 1981 but put back as found.  On dedicated screw, not part of glove box door hinge, short frame style.

Looks like one more of those variables that makes things interesting.  Certainly the long vs. short, hinge vs. dedicated screw issue is minor since they all work.

I think the long were on non AC cars but would not rule out a short on a non AC car if they happened to be out of the long.

Not sure why the factory would run out of a part.   Would want to see a fair number from a specific period of time before I would feel comfortable with that

 The "they ran out" has been an easy excuse for a long time.

Yea, I saw the extra hole and didn't know if it's been seen on other cars before or not?  The extra hole looks unused, meaning it looks like there was never hardware in it.

39,000 mile unrestored car, previous owner had car since 1973. Can never know for sure what was touched but based on the originality of the whole car, not sure why this area would be touched. ?

I'll look for more clues tho'.

'68 w/AC . These I took for someone looking for AC setup pictures, so I removed the glove box door for visibility. I like the second picture which captured the data sticker on the heater box with the date stamp.

All but one of the pictures which have been posted show a hex-head fastener being used to hold the lamp to the dash. The one picture which differs shows a phillips head screw, which happens to be what AMK supplies for this location.

Concerning the hex-head fastener shown in most of these pictures, was it a machine thread or self-tapping screw?

The part number called out in the 67 Electrical Assembly Manual, 374121-S2, apparently does not exist (a case of "creative part number engineering"?). In 1968 (and 1969) the part used was 55927-S36, 8-18X1/2 PAN 5/16, XREC, TPG for both sides. My notes say we used 55927-S36 on the 67 project but I can't justify the decision (it's been about 8 years). In general, Ford used gold zinc plated parts in electrical applications, eg grounds.

Never seen the phillips/flat blade head before. Not saying its not original - just never seen it use on a Mustang

Looks like a screw for the AC outlet was used.

The courtesy light  on under the dash on the passenger side  is mounted  by one of the screws  that hold the glove  box  hinge, the jim Osborne  manual  says  to mount  light with  existing  hardware, is it safe to say that  this would be a painted  screw, being as the hinge  was painted  with the dash

These are the driver and passenger lights from my Dearborn built 68 CJ (No Air) they have not been relocated, this is where they have been since 1968.

My experience matches Tim's reply #7 (for Metuchen), plus the a/c box/case label shown in reply #21 is usually oriented "upside down" when installed.
