Round style defroster hose lengths?
« on: March 06, 2014, 09:49:23 PM »
If anyone has an original set of round defroster hoses, could you please tell me what the approximate lengths are?  One is shorter than the other.

Thanks

I'm not able to measure mine at this time, away on business, but they are not round, they're square. Did Ford sometimes use round hoses during the first 2-1/2 production years?

Yes, both styles used, which is why I put 'round' in the title.   :D

I'll have to see if I can get mine out.  Charles, how would one know if they are original or not and best way to get them out if the car is together and you have AC...

I wouldn't want you to remove them in fear of ripping or damaging.  If you don't have A/C or a console, I guess the easiest way would be to use a piece of string to get the length and then put out on a tape measure or yard stick.

Mine are boxed up in the garage, so access would be pretty easy.  The only caveat is that mine are actually out of a Falcon (64 I believe).  As I recall, they were/are the same length as my junk originals, but this was probably 30 years ago.  Let me know if you want me measure them.

If it's not too much trouble, sure.  I can compare to others.

I was thinking of pulling mine out of my March 66 San Jose fstbck, (no air or console should be easy to get to),  but then thought, aren't they stapled to the original defrost ducts?? Might be more of a task then I thought. Also, do you want a relaxed measurement or "stretched"?

Yes they will be stapled at the defroster ducts - and the square one s may originally be different lengths than the earlier round ones- just a possibility

The square ones are like an accordion and stretch out more than the round ones.

Yes, the hoses are stapled to the cardboard duct at the top, so I would not want anyone removing these just to get a measurement.  Very easy to damage and brittle after 50 years!

Thanks

Would you say the long hose is closer to 22 or 23"?  Looks like the short one is 20"
