67 Finned Rear Tail Panel
« on: March 06, 2014, 07:18:28 PM »
I'm interested in everyones opinion. If you were adding the rear grill panels to your car would you install it this color or the vintage burgandy body color. The picture is my car with the panels just resting on the bumper. If installing this color I will not be painting the tail light panel like OE. Not really concerned with "correct", just which way do think you'd like it best - gray or burgundy?
Thanks in advance.

......... If installing this color I will not be painting the tail light panel like OE. .............

And the end cap details - painted like tail light panel inside the deluxe trim

My opinion would be to paint the taillight panel and end caps to match - looks less like something aftermarket that an owner threw on the car as an after thought

You asked ;)

If it was the way it looks or body color - I guess with only those two I would go with body color

Just for comparison, here's how it would look in Vintage Burgundy...

THANK YOU for the picture! I'm still on the fence. Obviously my car doesn't have the 2 tone color code so painting it body color does have an appeal to being more "correct".

I put a set of repros on a 67 Coupe that I used to own.  It was Candy Apple Red with a black vinyl roof.  I painted mine Argent and they looked great.  Popped really well against the body colour.  I have seen them painted body colour and in my opinion, they get lost.  You don't really see them all that well.

Originally they were either painted body colour OR dark argent.  Either one is correct.

Decided to go body color - Vintage Burgandy. I'll post pics as I make progress.

I  have often thought to (and even bid on a few different eBay listings) doing these on my 67 Coupe. (note: if you bought these off eBay, I might have been one of your other bidders) I've had the same similar opinion as others, they kinda just fade into the color of the car (though I would most likely had painted them "correctly" too) I kinda wish Ford had at least made these where you would have re-used the regular chrome around the tailights. NEVER enough chrome, in my opinion. One set of aftermarket cast aluminums I saw a few months ago (that I also did not end up with) I thought I might have had all the fins (ribs) polished brightly, then painted background the car color. Now THAT, to me, seems like it would have made thes really POP! (just my wooden nickels worth)

Here's the mounting spacer I fabricated and nut I came up with based on OE pictures. Close enough for me.
Four studs on each panel use these and the rest is the stock tail light hardware.

I like it painted on that color. Are you bringing it to the MCA national show in Lincoln NE.? I would like to see it in person.

As of now I'm bringing this one and my 84 to both Springfield and Lincoln.
Please look me up and say Hi.
