Convertible rear side rail water deflector/drain "thingies"...
« on: January 25, 2014, 10:53:02 PM »
Are these similar to that used on Mustangs?  Part number is the same as some references I have, but most vendors call out Fairlane, Comet, et. al. not Mustang.  Thinking its a common cross-referenced part and not unique, but unsure...

Anyone know if this was used on 67-68's and is the same part?

I have most of what is left of the ones that were on our 67 GTA. I thought strange that no one was making the Mustang part #, I ended up using the Falcon one and it worked fine.

I know they were used on 65-68's, my area of research, I have not gone into the '69 or later (the 4 years alone is a huge amount of info)

They go on the lowest weatherstrip stud of the rear side rail.  Between the weatherstrip and frame rail.  Low behind the rear 1/4, looks like they were designed to deflect water forward and not back into the wheel housing area... as there is a drain right below the 1/4 window (at least on 68s)

No picture, as I don't have one of them to mount...!  They are shown in the 65-68 Body FAM's.

Other than this thread, I would've never known my car was missing these things.

Yup, the goal of why I am trying to document as much on '65-'68 tops as I can.  And all the arcane questions on tiny issues.

A lot of the judging and standards are in peoples heads... and not written down or documented anywhere.  As we are all getting older, moving towards the inevitable, sometime soon a lot of knowledge will be lost.... so trying to preserve something for "the future" (assuming I publish it before I croak...  :-\ )

Richard,

I can't remember who the person was that provided these pics of an original to me, so I can't give them credit.  I wish I could.

Thanks Bryan... I am ordering some from them, as I saw those pics on your photo site when you gave me access.... I had a picture or two of the Mustang ones, I thought, but can't find them...

If anyone has pics of the correct ones in good shape I'd be interested.

I think the Macs' are close, but different...

They are pretty important on cars that get in the rain a fair amount.  Water gets blown aft and down the rails of the top frame and funnels down to that point.  The rubber deflector keeps the water on the OUTER parts of the car in that area so it goes out the drain holes at the bottom, instead of accumulating where there's no drain holes.
