Just a quick question....what was the finish on the front sway bar, painted black or natural?

the bar itself would be semi-gloss black.

Sometimes the dark heat treat finish on front sway bars and coil springs are mistaken for paint. I have seen both unpainted (dark gray/black heat treated)and what appears to be painted on 65 on and 66 SJ GT350's. Bob

I just ran into a heat treated front sway bar on a 28k original miles 1969 3/69 Dearborn M code built Cougar. I had heard they were out there but had never ran across one. The bar also had what looks to be a daub of gold (most likely yellow) It also had a violet paint daub on one end which I have never seen before.

That’s pretty unbelievable. How many 1969 Cougars were built in 1970? The real answer is none.
