Engine or Motor Mount Frame Bracket Finish
« on: January 14, 2014, 08:00:00 PM »
On a 12/64 - 2/65 era San Jose V8 (non-K) car, are the frame mounted engine mount brackets bare metal or painted black?  The originals I have are black, but .... ???

They were typically left natural cast iron, a little bit of a darkened appearance.  If you have some decent originals, soaking in evapo-rust will make them look new again.

Charles - I must have had a senior moment.  I knew that.  How about the fabricated style "1966" mounts on, say, a 11/65 or later San Jose V8 non-K?  This is actually the question I meant to ask in the first place.  Also bare steel or ??

Yes, '66 would be unpainted also.

When you redo the later 66 style  remember to reproduce  the discoloration from the welding that appears in the metal around the weld and the weld itself rather than leaving them monotone ;)
