Topic: 67 Trap Door Handle

Were the trap door handles painted at the same time as the trap doors, meaning that they would also be charcoal black metallic and the steel underneath the mounting flange on the trap door wouldn't have received any paint?
OR, was the handle painted off of the trap door and if so, was it also painted charcoal black metallic, or just a plain old semi-gloss black?

The latch and hinges were not on the trap door when it was painted

The round loop style handle was phosphate and oil (had it tested a few years back when NPD was going to reproduce them)

WOW, phosphate & oil on the loopy handle? I NEVER would have figured that.... I'd have thought for sure they were painted. Thanks Jeff.

May I ask in what finish the trap door hinges are supposed to be? (for a fastback 67 - San José)
Also phosphate & oil like the trap door handle, or in black paint?
in case of black paint : semi gloss black or charcoal black metallic?

First - Thank You for including your cars info in your signature. Makes it allot easier

For that year and plant the hinges appear to be painted the same color and finish as the trap doors but before being attached together as shown in the original examples shown below.  Possibly the same supplier for both

Question #2 is in regards to a potential running change.  When looking through pictures, most of the 67 models have the latch with a "knob" that is used to slide the latch up to release the door.  I did find that 7F02C200xxx has what I considered the 1968 style with a finger pull "loop".   I'll probably go back through various pictures to see where the change might have occurred.

While going through pictures for your latch hardware question in another post I also looked at this detail also. For San Jose cars I found only one unrestored car with the later loop and it was a fairly early car. With that fact and that there were no other examples I believe that the latch on that car was replaced at some point with either a donor from another later car or they went to Ford and they were selling the later "up dated version" at that time as a service replacement that would work.

Latest example I have is from a mid-June (real build date) car and others with projected build date in June 67
