'68 seat belt warning light
« on: January 04, 2014, 09:07:43 AM »
Bought a Fog harness/switch and "Z plate" (as I call it, plate that mounts under the fuse box and breakers mount to in '68s) and as a bonus it looks like the seat belt lamp option is included.

It appears this is just a capacitor (about 1 1/2" long) mounted to the plate with a hot feed and then the wire to the back of the inst cluster.  Lights up for a few seconds then goes out when tested on a battery.

Is this the entire option?  Hot feed wire from main harness to capacitor, capacitor on Z plate, feed to lamp and socket in cluster?  Just comes on when you hit the ignition for a few seconds and then goes out?

Pretty much it for these basic systems - all works as a timer.

Did all 68's have the seat belt reminder light?  Mine does not have it...not sure if it ever did.  My 67 does have one.

The seat belt warning system was part of the courtesy group option, I don't think it was a separate option. The relay is thermally activated which turns off after a few seconds, but the bi-metallic strip still has 12V going thru it while the car is running. The major problem after 40-45 years is the contacts gets pitted and the lamp doesn't light up, and the contacts may even fuse together, lamp won't go out. There is a difference between the 65-66 and the 67 on types only in mounting. Expect to pay $25 plus. Service part number for reference is  - D1AZ-10B924-A and the housing is marked C7AB-10B924-A or B, or D2AB-10B924-AA. The 65-66 service number is C6AZ-10B924-A.

I think they were part of the deluxe seat belt option.  Also included with the convenience control panel option.  If both options were ordered, the convenience control panel type ruled.

A few pics of the items.  Did not recall the separate ground wire, not sure if its part for the seat belt setup, but appears so as I have never seen it on a fog light equipped car.

The ground wire went to the wiper motor bracket, there should be a predrilled hole. The ground was not necessary for the circuit breakers but was needed for the seat belt relay.
