Windlace
« on: December 28, 2013, 04:32:30 PM »
I feel like this is an incredibly stupid question, but where does the windlace start and stop? Does it continue entirely underneath the door sill plates or only far enough to be concealed by the sill plates?

Not a bad question at all, and answered in the Mustang Assembly Manuals. I strongly suggest you get a set for your car, and read them too.

Good suggestion! I own a full set of assembly manuals for each vehicle I own! And yes, I read them a lot... they're well worn. :-)

Perhaps you could share where in the body or interior manual the windlace is shown, with respect to the sill plate? I have checked both and appearantly have overlooked the detail. I wouldn't post a question without first exhausting the manuals.

Your answer is found at the bottom of page 20 of the interior assembly manual.

Thanks! I found some info for the fastback on pg 18, but it doesn't show detail between the windlace & the rubber section of the weatherstrip at the interior quarter panel plastic.

---> Could anyone post a clear picture of the area circled below? I am trying to understand if the windlace should stop just above the rubber or if should continue slightly below it.

Should travel high enough to slide in the pocket at the end of the roof weatherstrip

Will look for a picture

You did not say what body style you were working on and by this post. It is best to give us all of car info so we can better help.I thought you were talking about the bottom end. ;)

Fastback, SanJose car, very late '67 build date

I'm asking about the section of windlace that comes down from the roof line. I figured out that the lower section of windlace, starting just below the sill plate, tucks up into the rubber cup at the weatherstrip. What I'm not sure of, however, is where the upper windlace (from the roof line) stops at the rubber section of weatherstrip. A picture would be super helpful.

Great pic! Thanks a ton!!! I think I understand (now) that the windlace needs to stop where the interior plastic quarter panel trim is located. I think this project would have been 1000 times easier if I owned a fully assembled car I could reference. :-)

RE the new picture I've attached below, how much of the carpet, if any, exist between the plastic panel and the body, where the plastic panel meets the sill plate?

Sorry but I don't have any shots of that area.  The sill plate cover would have to be removed.

Moving over a bit, if you look at that picture that I posted with the parchment interior, note the carpet glued to the plastic - no sewn edges.  Nice and "raw".  Many reproductions have incorrect bound edges for these small pieces, and in some cases for the main carpet also.

Tucked into the weatherstrip end pocket and at the bottom the windlace goes into the pocket at the rear of the sill plate. Fiberglass rear quarter trim gets placed on the inside of the windlace not inside/below. Seen owners tray this at shows. Looks really bad :(
