Motor Mount Finish - 428 CJ
« on: December 14, 2013, 06:00:07 PM »
I am uncertain about the correct finish on the block plate portion of the motor mount assembly on a 428 CJ.  The car is a 10/68 built San Jose car, but I wonder if that matters.  Could the finish vary by assembly plant? BTW, I know with some certainty that the frame mount portion is natural/bare steel.

These are the parts I am questioning:

Have always seen the motor mount (rubber one) painted semi-gloss black on San Jose cars and of course the service replacements & NOS ones. For the motor mount to block bracket rules, I believe, still state black or natural though I recall seeing more San Jose cars with black ones rather than natural. Might again (like other parts) a different supplier for San Jose than the other plants producing the either/or choice made in the rules.

Hope this helps

Thanks Jeff - the old Sikora detailing guide says "black or natural" for these too.  Not much help ???

Yes sometimes we come to conclusions because so and so's car is that way, other times we get mixed messages (findings) based on other times.

Always new information and discoveries worthy of new discussions or revisiting old ones ;)

I have never seenblock plates other than bare steel & that is why they are often pitted & rubber mounts black oxide finnish.

The ones you find are putted   ;)

& rubber mounts black oxide finnish.

Will try and dig a couple out (holidays in the way a bit) and run some tests on the finishes. The black oxide or other metal treatment to make them black might be supported. Wouldn't be the first time you were right ;)

OK, I'll go with that.  Natural on the block plates and oxide on the insulator.  Thanks much!
